Fax: (518) 512-4597

For nearly thirty years, Douglas Gerhardt has enjoyed practicing education and public labor law throughout New York State. Having joined the Honeywell Law Firm more than a year ago as a shareholder, he previously served as a senior equity partner at another major New York State law firm, where he helped oversee that firm’s education and public sector labor work. Douglas proudly represents some of the largest (and smallest) school districts across New York State. He also maintains a robust practice representing private sector employers and not-for-profit organizations. He routinely advises, counsels, and litigates on behalf of school districts, municipalities and private sector companies on a full range of issues including general education, labor and employment and human resources. He litigates in court and before state and federal agencies including NYSED, EEOC, NYS Division of Human Rights, and the NYS Attorney General. He frequently advises clients on complex employment matters, First Amendment issues and the essentials of school business practices.

Douglas has been at the forefront of legal issues involving cybersecurity, artificial intelligence and how they merge with legal practice. He speaks and writes on these issues with some frequency.

Douglas began his career as a counsel to the Speaker of the Assembly. From there he worked as Director of Government Relations and counsel at the School Administrators Association, (“SAANYS”) and then General Counsel to the New York State Council of School Superintendents. Douglas is an adjunct professor at Skidmore College and previously taught at Union College’s Graduate School and what was the College of St. Rose. He is an active member of the New York State and Saratoga County Bar Associations and longstanding member of the Adirondack Women’s Bar Association.
