An amendment to the New York State Labor Law is slated for the Governor’s desk that we anticipate she will sign, which amends portions of Section 27-b, containing the Workplace Violence Prevention Act.
The amendment, as it relates to the risk evaluations and determinations required under the original statute, would require that “abusive conduct and bullying in the workplace” be included as factors or situations schools review in conducting their evaluations. The amendments require that the reporting systems in place be expanded from incidents of “aggressive behavior” to include the ability to report incidents of “abusive conduct and bullying.” Further, the amendment expands the existing training requirements to include training on “preventing and reporting workplace bullying and abusive conduct” as well as “how to identify and report workplace bullying and abusive conduct.”
