New York State Labor Law has been amended to create paid pre-natal leave for covered employees. This addition to Paid Family Leave began as of January 1, 2025. Importantly, New York State Paid Family Leave does not apply to public employers, including school districts, unless paid family leave has been negotiated into a collective bargaining agreement. We are advising you of this change as employees and unions may ask about its implementation. Any applicable leave is set forth in each unit’s collective bargaining agreement.
